PLD presidential candidate Gonzalo Castillo received the support of five minority parties. The parties that announced they would ally with the PLD and register Castillo as their presidential candidate are the Popular Democratic Party (Partido Demócrata Popular -PDP), Alternative Democratic Movement (Movimiento Democrático Alternativo -Moda), Civic Renovator (Cívico Renovador -PCR), Christian Democratic Union (Unión Demócrata Cristiana – UDC) and Liberal Action (Acción Liberal -PAL).
In accepting the support, Castillo spoke of how he shares with these parties the principals of plurality and democratic convergence. He spoke of his interest in together advancing toward the social, political, economic and cultural development of the country.
Gonzalo Castillo was sworn in as candidate by the presidents of the five parties: for Moda, Emilio Rivas Rodríguez; for the PCR, Jorge Radhamés Zorrilla Ozuna; for the PDP, Nelson Didiez Nadal; for the UDC, Luis Acosta Moreta (El Gallo) and for the PAL, Maritza López de Ortiz.
Attending the event were the campaign manager for Castillo, executive vice president of the Dominican Public Electricity Corporation Rubén Jiménez Bichara; the PLD Central Committee member Francisco Domínguez Brito; the secretary of electoral affairs for the PLD, Sports Minister Danilo Díaz; the executive director of the Center for Exports & Investment, Marius de León, among others.
