The president of the Dominican Workers’ Party (PTD), António Florián said that the former President of the Republic Leonel Fernández will be named the presidential candidate for the new Power to the People Party (LFP) on Sunday 27 October, during a national convention of the party delegates. He said that at least six other parties would join in, proclaiming Fernandez as their presidential candidate. During the same event, the party’s municipal and congressional candidates would be proclaimed.
Florián said the present political headquarters used by Leonel Fernández would be the headquarter for the LFP.
There is speculation as to whether the Central Electoral Board (JCE) will accept the candidacy, as Fernández had already opted to run for another party and lost.
