
The emergency services in the eastern Hato Mayor province recovered the bodies of three workers who died following a landslide and underground river flooding in an amber mine in El Valle. El Valle is some 33 kilometers to the north of the city of Hato Mayor. The victims are Rafael Nolasco Javalera, from Mango el Limpio, Eusebio de la Cruz Toribio, aged 51 from El Valle, and a Haitian national, Andrés Seguí.
The authorities established that the amber mine was 120 feet deep, but that it had 45 feet of water in it, which came from underground sources. The doctors in the area believe the victims died from intoxication with sulfur in the mine

As reported, more than 10 workers have died in the mines over the past 10 years.
