Francisco Javier García: The truth is coming to the surface

Tourism Minister Francisco Javier García spoke with relief on the toxicology report received from the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) that absolves the country from the discredit scandal that had been covered by the US press and caused significant cancellations in US travel to the country. “The truth is surfacing,” said García when interviewed at the inauguration of the 145-room Homewood Studios by Hilton hotel on Av. Winston Churchill in Santo Domingo.

International media are now reporting that the results of the FBI toxicology report dispute that tainted beverages or toxic fumigation could have caused the deaths of the US tourists in May and June. The FBI concluded the tourists had died of natural causes derived from the tourists’ health conditions.

García said that tourism security in the Dominican Republic has always been a government priority. “We, as the leading country in tourism in the Caribbean region, have always acted adhered to the truth, a truth that is beginning to surface,” the minister said as he delivered the keynote address at the inauguration of the Homewood Studios Hotel.

García said the Homewood Suites by Hilton is the newest in Santo Domingo. He said the country’s hotel inventory is now at 90,000 rooms, and that around 7 million tourist visitors are expected this 2019.

The newly inaugurated hotel is the first Homewood Suites by Hilton in the Caribbean. During the inauguration, Jorge Giannattasio, Hilton’s senior vice president and chief of operations for the Caribbean and Latin America described Santo Domingo as a prosperous metropolis and capital of the Dominican Republic and the most populated city in the Caribbean.
