
President Danilo Medina welcomed a group of American business people interested in investing in the Port of Manzanillo and exploring business opportunities in the northwestern municipality of Pepillo Salcedo, Montecristi province. The business people met at the Presidential Palace with President Medina and cabinet members. Katherine Waldron, Michelle Stepnick, Carlos Troncoso, Juan Aquino, among others, made the presentations and answered questions on behalf of the investors.
Vice Administrative Minister Lionel Senior led the discussions during the meeting. Senior said President Danilo Medina received explanations about the different phases of the foreign investment initiative and how the investors visualize the Manzanillo area development. Senior explained the proposal covered not only the deepwater port, but also the integral development of the whole area of Pepillo Salcedo. He said there would be possible investments in a natural gas plant, a solar energy park and a free zone park. The proposal encompasses rehabilitation of tourist areas, beaches, sports and other community facilities over the next 15 years.
Also present for the presentation were Administrative Minister José Ramón Peralta, Economy Minister Juan Ariel Jiménez; Treasury Minister Donald Guerrero; legal advisor to the President Flavio Darío Espinal, and Dominican Port Authority director, Víctor Gómez Casanova.
