The long-standing president of the Association of Commercial Banks, 75-year old Jose Manuel Lopez Valdés, died on Friday, 25 October 2019. He was president of the banking association for almost three decades. Lopez Valdes also chaired the Latin American Banking Federation (Felaban) until November 2018. Under his helm in November 2018, Felaban had celebrated their 52nd annual assembly in Punta Cana with the participation of 1,800 regional bankers. Lopez Valdes was previously an officer at the Central Bank and the Agriculture Bank (Bagricola).
