Cubana de Aviación, the Cuban government flag carrier, announced the cancellation of seven of its international flights, including flights to Santo Domingo. The airline blamed the cancellations on the intensification of the US embargo by the Trump administration.
The international routes that have been cancelled are to Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic), Mexico City and Cancún (Mexico), Caracas (Venezuela), Port-au-Prince (Haiti), Fort-de-France (Martinique) and Pointe-à-Pitre (Guadeloupe), as reported by the state-run Cuban News Agency (ACN).
The deputy director of Cubana, Arsenio Arocha Elías-Moisés explained that Cubana de Aviación was notified of the termination of two aircraft lease contracts by third-country companies due to recent sanctions imposed by the Washington administration against Cuba. He said the airline is looking for alternatives to be able to continue providing the services.
