10-hour traffic jam on Duarte Highway

A crash between two freighter trucks on Duarte Highway, followed with the collision of five other vehicles, on Thursday, 31 October 2019 morning created a bottleneck on the country’s main north-south road that lasted over 10 hours. The accident occurred at around noon at the Piedra Blanca overpass stretch. The traffic jam was at least 10 km long, reported Diario Libre.

The authorities removed the collided trucks. The traffic jam, nevertheless, continued due to the imprudence of drivers that in their desperation crammed the opposite lanes, impeding traffic in all directions on the road for hours. Several vehicles were left without fuel as it took hours for the authorities of the Transit Agency (Digesett) to sort out the mess. As reported, traffic did not flow until after 9 pm in the evening.
