
Guatemala’s President-elect Alejandro Giammattei met with President Danilo Medina at the Presidential Palace on Friday, 1 November 2019. Giammattei will be sworn in on 14 January 2020. Designated Guatemalan Foreign Relations Minister Pedro Brolo and the Guatemalan ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Rudy Armando Coxaj López, accompanied the President-elect on the visit. Participating in the meeting for the Dominican Republic were Presidency Minister Gustavo Montalvo, Foreign Minister Miguel Vargas Maldonado, and Tourism Minister Francisco Javier García.
The Dominican Republic has close ties with Central America. It is a member of the Central American economic block, the Central American Integration System (SICA).
