News commentator Huchi Lora has reckoned the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) has more to lose than gain from the announced alliance with groups that back former President Leonel Fernández. PRM ally, Tony Peña Guaba has argued the alliances are to strengthen the PRM and ensure the PLD is ousted from government. But opponents of the alliance say that Fernández, the long time former president of the PLD, represents what the PRM has been campaigning against. The political analysts recall electoral fraud in the times of Fernández and that it was during the Fernández governments that Dominican institutions, including the judiciary and legislative branches were diminished.
