Extradited Spaniard says he is innocent

Dominican Ambiórix Nepomuceno Rodríguez says he is innocent of the murder of the lawyer Paola Languasco. He made the statement on reaching the Justice Palace in Santiago, following his extradition from Spain on Monday, 4 November 2019. He also asked not to be placed in a cell, saying that his life was at risk from other inmates.

The head prosecutor in Santiago, Francisco Núñez said that they would be asking for a year on remand in jail and that the case be declared to be complicated, and that they would be looking for the maximum 30-year jail sentence.

Nepomuceno Rodríguez is accused of the murder of Languasco. She disappeared on 5 April 2015 and her body was found on 24 April 2015 in Santiago.

For the crime, Cristino Antonio Mármol and Lariel Alejandro Pichardo Marte, are both serving 20-year sentences, having been found guilty of hiding the body and criminal association.

In addition to the murder of the lawyer, Nepomuceno is also accused of another murder, that of Dominican citizen Fausto Rivera Bobonagua in Duarte province.
