
The president of the Dominican Olympic Committee, 66-year old Luis Mejía Oviedo was named president of the Central American and Caribbean Sports Organization (Odecabe). He was elected on Thursday, 31 October in the Odecabe meeting held in Panama City. He will hold the position from 2020 to 2024.
Mejía competed against the president of the Barbados Olympic Committee, Steve Stoute, the incumbent president, who sought to continue for another term. Mejia becomes the second Dominican to preside Odecabe. The first was Dr. José Joaquín Puello.
Mexican Jimena Saldaña was elected first vice president; Colombian Ciro Solano is to be second vice president; and Puerto Rican Sara Rosario will be third vice president. The elected secretary general is Venezuelan Eduardo Alvarez.
