
An analysis of the recent National Poll on the WorkForce by the Central Bank reveals that 34.6% of the new posts (47,024) created in 2019 were in the commerce sector. Another 13.2% were jobs in government (17,995). Finance companies added 12% of the positions (11,626). The health sector was responsible for 11.3% (15,467) of the new jobs. This adds up to 71.1% of the jobs created.
There was a decline in jobs creating in agriculture, construction, electricity, water, transport, communication and education. Farm jobs declined 21,560 jobs by the second half of the year, or 4.2%.
Manufacturing was only capable of generating 3,900 jobs, or 0.8% more than a year ago. The Central Bank poll indicated that 455,004 persons were employed in the industrial sector at the close of the second quarter of the year. This number is similar to that of last year.
