The presidential candidate for Alianza País, Guillermo Moreno, described as impossible reaching a political alliance with former President Leonel Fernandez. Moreno said that Fernández is one of those directly responsible for the model that radically needs to change. He said any agreement would Fernández would maintain impunity for administrative corruption.
Moreno said: “He has applied neoliberal policies that denied the population fundamental economic and social rights,” he said.
He said that starting in 2004, Fernández lead the country on “an irresponsible escalation of public indebtedness that Danilo Medina has continued.” He highlighted that Fernández delivered the country’s natural resources in leonine conditions such as occurred with the Barrick Gold contract.
Moreno criticized that Fernández’s base of operations is an entity that was funded through the payment of bonuses and commissions and that 12 works with ties to bribes by Odebrecht were carried out during Fernandez’s term as President.
Moreno made the statements coinciding with the announcement by high-ranking officers of the PRM that the party is in talks for alliances with political organizations that oppose the continuance in the government of the ruling Dominican Liberation Party (PLD). Of these, those that back Leonel Fernández are included.
Moreno made the statements after the PRM announced that it is in talks with Al Pais. High-ranking officers of the PRM have also announced that agreements would be reached with the coalition that backs former President Leonel Fernández.
