Paraglider rescued from forced landing in Bonao hills

Emergency crews on duty during the Constitution Day long weekend rescued a 51-year old paraglider Yacine Khellady on Saturday, 2 November 2019. Civil Defense volunteers had early on detected the man could have problems because of the adverse weather conditions when he took off.

As reported, Khellady sent his landing location to his wife before his cell phone discharged. This allowed rescue workers to find him a day after he had crashed in the rugged mountain area. His wife said that Khellady suffers from asthma and has worn-out knees. Khellady was rescued on the hills of the northern part of the province of Monseñor Nouel (Bonao), near La Vega, after spending around 24 hours after his crashed landing.

The rescue was possible thanks to efforts of the Center for Emergency Operations (COE), the Air Force Rescue Squadron, the La Vega Fire Rescue Unit, the Specialized Tourist Security Corps (Cestur), the Civil Defense and the Army.
