Cheap produce for sale in Santo Domingo

Agriculture Minister Osmar Benítez has announced that beginning this week, the program of selling large amounts of agricultural products at low prices will be increased. Last month, the Ministry of Agriculture, along with other institutions, began a plan to sell plantains and bananas at low prices, to try and stabilize the continuing price increases.

Benítez said that the program, which started in around 25 neighborhoods in Santo Domingo, would be expanded to 50 more neighborhoods. He said in addition to plantains and bananas, yuca, sweet potato, chickens and eggs would be sold. Eggs will be sold for RD$3 each. Plantains would be between RD$5.5 and RD$7, and bananas at RD$2 each.
