JCE says automated voting audit to start soon

The Interamerica Union of Electoral Organizations (Uniore) will supervise the forensic audit to be carried out by Deloitte and Touche SA.

The president of the Central Electoral Board (JCE), Julio César Castaños Guzmán said that the analysis of the automated voting system would be carried out with absolute transparency. He invited technical delegates from the political parties to witness the process.

Answering criticism about Deloitte, he said that the firm is from Costa Rica, and is an affiliate of one of the four largest firms in the world and that that branch has never had any problems with anyone. He denied that the local Deloitte firm would be carrying out the audit. The media has pointed out that the local branch of Deloitte has benefited from several government audit contracts.

He went on to say that the complete results of the audit would be available in six weeks, but a first report on the software would be available in two weeks’ time.

He said the OAS technicians would not participate in the audit. He said these would render a report after the May 2020 election.

He rejected that there are similarities between the case of electoral fraud in Bolivia and the primaries in the Dominican Republic.
