The body of a US citizen was discovered in the Casa Yagua residential area of Cabarete, Puerto Plata province, on Monday night, 11 November 2019. The victim was identified as 63-year-old Patricia Ann Anton, who had lived in the country for several years. She was a teacher at the private school Colegio Las Mariposas.
The woman was gagged and tied of feet and arms. Her body showed signs of violence. According to the medical examiner, Anton was strangled to death. Her body was sent to the National Institute of Forensic Science in Santiago for the forensic autopsy.
Several items appeared to be missing from the apartment including a cellphone, laptop and television. However, there were no signs of forced entry, so it is possible that the victim knew her killer.
