Casa Brugal wins national industry award

The Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD) honored the spirits company, Casa Brugal with the National Award for Dominican Industry. During the same annual awards luncheon held on 12 November 2019, the Dominican manufacturers association recognized José Manuel Paliza with the Industrial Merit Award. The Senate Permanente Committee for Industry, Commerce and Free Zones received the Award for Institutional Efforts in Support of the Industrial Sector that evening.

In his keynote speech, the president of AIRD, Celso Juan Marranzini said the time is right to define and establish a manufacturing policy for sustainable development. He stressed the importance of a public-private alliance. “It is a question of focusing on the fundamental problems of the country and on a vision of development, not on discussions derived from political conjunctures, which take us away from the direction towards the goals and which, rather, contribute to create an environment of uncertainty,” he said.

He highlighted the Dominican Republic is lagging behind the Fourth Industrial Revolution. He called for aligning education and innovation policies to prepare human talent to meet the challenges of Industry 4.0. He called for the state to design environmental policies that back sustainable development as well as better industry and trade policy that makes it possible to take advantage of regional integration agreements.

Marranzini called for the private sector to be more interested in learning, modifying and creating the tools that will enable making inroads and competing internationally. He called for the country to become active players in industry 4.0 to achieve lasting economic development.

In essence, Industry 4.0 is the trend towards automation and data exchange in manufacturing technologies and processes that include cyber-physical systems (CPS), the Internet of Things (IoT), Industrial Internet of Things (IIOT), cloud computing, cognitive computing and artificial intelligence.

Attending the event for the government was Vice President Margarita Cedeño, Administrative Minister of the Presidency José Ramón Peralta, Labor Minister Winston Santos; Industry and Commerce Minister Nelson Toca Simó; Public Health Minister Rafael Sánchez Cárdenas, among others.
