Six provinces under alert

The Center for Emergency Operations (COE) has issued a green alert for six provinces that are likely to be affected by a weather front that is at a standstill next to the Dominican Republic. The provinces under alert are Espaillat, Monseñor Nouel (Bonao), Puerto Plata, Santiago, La Vega and San Juan de la Magua, where heavy rain is expected, leading to overflowing of rivers and streams and urban flooding.

The National Meteorological Office (Onamet) explained that the front is off the northwest of the country, but it is expected to degenerate into a tropical wave, bringing rains and thunderstorms to the northeast, southeast, north, northwest, central mountain area and the border with Haiti.

Heavy rains were felt throughout the evening and early morning of 12 and 13 November 2019.
