Builders Odebrecht-Technimont-Estrella delivered the first unit of the Punta Catalina Thermoelectric Power Plant (CTPC) on Friday, 14 November 2019 to the Public Electricity Corporation (CDEEE). The coal-fired unit has the capacity to generate 337 MW and now enters its year of service under warranty.
El Caribe newspaper reported that the second unit, of equal capacity, is in the test phase. It was synchronized with the nation’s electricity grid on 11 October. On that day, the unit produced 90 MW, and it will be going in and out of service as the start-up tests continue.
