
With six months to go before the 2020 presidential elections, the parties are now preparing to confirm their different alliances.
So far what is known is that Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) candidate, Gonzalo Castillo, will also be presented as presidential candidate by nine other parties. These are the Democratic Popular Party (PDP), the Alternative Democratic Movement, (Moda), the Civic Renewal (PCR), the Democratic Christian Union (UDC), Liberal Action Party (PAL), Revolutionary Independent Party (PRI), Dominican Revolutionary (PRD) and just recently, the Liberal Reformist Party (PLR).
Luis Abinader, candidate for the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) has been proclaimed candidate by the Democratic Alliance Party (APD), Humanist Dominican Party (PHD), the Revolutionary Social Democratic Party (PRSD), Dominicans for Change (DxC) and the Popular Front (Frente Amplio).
Former President Leonel Fernandez has been proclaimed candidate by six parties. The Dominican Workers Party (PTD) (that is requesting to change its name to the Force of the People), the United National Party (PUN), el the Institutional Social Democratic Block (BIS), Democratic Christian Quisqueya (PQDC), National Progressive Force (FNP) and the Social Christian Reform party (PRSC).
The other smaller parties have their own candidates for president. Guillermo Moreno for Alliance Peace; Luis José Ramfis Domínguez Trujillo seeks to run for the National Citizen Will (PNVC); Porfirio López Nieto for the Socialist Green Party (PESOVE) and the Democratic Institutional Party (PDI) will have Ismael Reyes. The candidate for the Popular Christian Party (PPC) is still not known.
