City government to deal with chaos at the Duarte Av. with Paris street intersection

The intersection is avoided at all costs. It is the best example of what can happen when there is no city authority. Informal merchants have taken over the area over decades, while city authorities have looked the other way.

Now city mayor David Collado announces he has received RD$50 million in backing from businesses to rescue the area. Collado says dealing with the problem has taken time. He points to the successful efforts of his administration to rescue the Nicolás de Ovando and Máximo Gómez intersection, and the surroundings of the state university, the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) main campus after a consensus was reached and human dignity was respected. He mentioned other successful interventions in Villa Consuelo and La Puya, Arroyo Hondo.

Collado has less than a year to go as mayor of Santo Domingo. The Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) has stated they have reserved the candidacy of the mayor of the National District for him for 2020-24. But while the municipal electoral campaign opened on 8 November, Collado has yet to openly promote his would-be aspirations for a second term at the National District (Santo Domingo) city government.
