
Deloitte is out. The company says they revoked the contract because the JCE increased from 5% to 30% the machines to be audited. But JCE president Julio Cesar Castaños says they resigned because of the “insults” they received. The media carried stories of a conflict of interest.
The contracting of Deloitte met with opposition from former President Leonel Fernández and the political coalition that backs him. Fernández questioned the company’s ties to lucrative government procurement in the country. He also insisted the Organization of American States, European Union, United States and other organizations participate in the process. It was Fernández who had called for the forensic audit of the system to substantiate his claims of widespread fraud in the 6 October 2019 Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) primary.
