The executive director of the National Institute for the Protection of Consumer Rights (Proconsumidor), Anina del Castillo has said that the organization will follow up on the cases of vehicle importers who are selling cars whose mileage has been adulterated.
Interviewed by Huchi Lora for the El Dia program, she said that there always is a risk when buying a used vehicle because so many parts could go wrong. But she says when the mileage is altered, the risks are higher.
Last week, Jose Urtecho, well known for his traffic advisories, reported that a well-known car dealer was trying to sell to him a vehicle with the odometer showing around 40,000 miles less than what a check with CarFax indicated. Utrecho said that not all buyers will order a CarFax check. CarFax carries the vehicle history report for imports from the United States.
