Félix Jiménez vs. Felix Bautista

Both politicians have the same first name. Félix “Felucho” Jiménez was the minister of tourism (1996-2000 and 2004-2008) during the governments of former President Leonel Fernández. Since the start of the first term of President Danilo Medina in August 2012, Jiménez has been president of the Dominican Petroleum Refinery.

Félix Bautista won the nomination to run for senator for San Juan de la Maguana for a third time. This time Bautista competed and won against the sister of President Danilo Medina, Lucia Medina. During the governments of President Leonel Fernandez, he was the head of the Presidency Office of Supervision Engineers of Public Works (OISOE). Transparency International has listed him in the top corrupt men in the world.

Now the two have been battling it out in the media after Jiménez remarked on a TV program that Bautista should be in prison with former President Leonel Fernández and out of the ruling Dominican Liberation Party (PLD). Jiménez understands Bautista should have left the party when former President Leonel Fernández split.

Bautista, in turn, accuses Jiménez of being a manipulator and disrespectful. He says Dominican justice has cleared him of corruption charges. “All the accusations against me have been widely debated in the justice system and have declared me innocent. I have always defended my honor and personal integrity with great courage and determination in all the scenarios in which I have been cited,” Bautista said in a tweet.
