PRM calls for President Medina to stay out of campaigning

The Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) rejected on Monday, 18 November 2019 that President Danilo Medina in person lead the 2020 electoral campaign of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD). The PRM said it will take the case of President Danilo Medina and his cabinet openly campaigning for Gonzalo Castillo and other PLD candidates to the Superior Electoral Court (TSE).

Reading a document during a press conference, Tony Raful said that the presence of the President of the Republic on Sunday in La Vega, leading the opening of the campaign of the candidates for mayors of the PLD in the different municipalities of that province, is a flagrant and unacceptable violation of electoral laws. He maintained that the participation of a President and the high officials of his cabinet is a deep provocation to the democratic coexistence of the country.

“Society has the right to choose freely and without the manipulations of power. We demand the President of the Republic to set an example together with his officials in the fulfillment of the law”, Raful emphasized, after specifying that the exercise of politics in these times demands transparency and respect for the rules of the game.
