The opposition Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) block of legislators abstained from voting for a US$90 million loan for the expansion of the renovation program in the Santo Domingo Colonial City. The deputies representing Juntos Podemos, that is made up of legislators that back former President Leonel Fernández, voted against the bill. Despite three calls to vote, the divide in the Chamber of Deputies impeded the passing of the Interamerican Development Bank (IDB) funding for the second phase for the renovation of the Colonial City of Santo Domingo (Programa Integral de Desarrollo Turístico y Urbano de la Ciudad Colonial de Santo Domingo).
The loan had passed earlier in the Senate. It had received the favorable opinion of a Chamber of Deputies committee. This was a third attempt at passing the bill in the Chamber of Deputies. The renovation project is under the Ministry of Tourism and the City Government of the National District.
Diario Libre editorialized that the Colonial City has been kidnapped by politicians.
