
The Felix Sánchez Olympic Stadium was the only venue sufficiently large to gather the around 40,000 graduates career training programs at the National Institute for Professional Training (Infotep) on their graduation day, 20 November 2019. Vice President Margarita Cedeño was present together with Presidency Minister Gustavo Montalvo, Education Minister Antonio Peña Mirabal, among others.
Infotep director, Rafael Ovalles said it had been a challenging but fruitful journey. “In the five years that we have been at the head of the institution, we have seen how the productive sectors increasingly recognize the importance of professional technical training,” he said. Infotep centers around the country offer around 1,050 short and long programs.
The keynote speech was by Celso Juan Marranizni, president of the Dominican Republic Association of Industries (AIRD). Marranzini called for a close alliance between training centers, business and labor sectors and between the public and private sector. “We must take a long-term view on the relationship between training and productive development,” he said.
