The Dominican Republic is the guest of honor at the International Cigar Expo 2019, ICE 19, held 21-22 November 2019 in Shenzhen, China. The city is China’s main import destination for foreign cigars, according to the Dominican Republic’s Center for Export and Investment (CEI-RD). Representatives of 12 Dominican companies, producers and distributors of foreign cigars are participating in the event.
“This event represents a great opportunity for the promotion of the export and marketing of Dominican cigars in China,” said Marius de León, director of CEI-RD, who heads the Dominican delegation to the event.
He explained the CEI-RD joined forces with the National Council of Free Zones (CNZFE) to take advantage of all the support the Chinese government is giving to the launching of Dominican cigars in the China market.
“Last year, the Dominican Republic positioned itself in the rankings of the handmade cigar market as the world’s largest exporter of cigars, ranking number one in the US and Canada, second in Switzerland and fifth in Germany. Now we are going after the conquest of the Asian market,” said De León.
