US-DR medical teams help a three-year old to speak

A team of surgeons from Massachusetts General Hospital in the United States, the Operation Airway and Benjamin Harry Peikin Foundation proudly announced the success of a rare laryngeal reiinervation surgery at the Robert Reid Cabral Children’s Hospital in Santo Domingo. The operation essentially rewired the paralyzed vocal cord with a new nerve supply of the child.

This was the first time the procedure is carried out in the country. Through the procedure, voice was restored to a three-year old girl who had suffered from paralysis of her vocal chords. The Dominican team of physicians was lead by Marcos Mirambeaux and the US team by Christopher Hartnick.
