Alliance between Alpaís and PRM

Country Alliance (AlPaís) and the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) signed a partial agreement for the promotion of municipal and congressional candidates. On Monday, 25 November 2019, both parties pledged to promote candidates that do not have a track record of corruption but rather can show commitment in their communities. The parties said their common objective is to bring more plurality to the National Congress, putting an end to the “hegemonic control” that the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) has exercised over the legislature for the past 13 years.

They also advocated for a legislative agenda that contributes to the strengthening of institutions as required by the current social, economic, environmental and cultural context of the Dominican Republic.

Recently, the PRM allied with the Juntos Podemos coalition that backs the presidential aspirations of former President Leonel Fernández.

Diario Libre today editorializes that the alliances being signed by the PRM to ensure “all against the same enemy” could have been premature.
