Shops are doing big business for “Black Friday,” according to Mario Lama, president of the National Organization of Commercial Businesses (ONEC). The American shopping holiday is also one of the biggest, if not the biggest, shopping event in the Dominican Republic.
Lama said that around 300,000 temporary employees were hired for the shopping days. The sector employs around 1.5 million people.
He expects sales to be 8% more than last year because the stores have been offering Pre-Black Friday sales all throughout November.
The Tax Agency reports that last year sales were up RD$49.6 billion more in November than in October.
