Bariatric Center inaugurated at HOMS hospital

The Metropolitan Hospital of Santiago (HOMS) inaugurated its Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Center (Instituto Bariátrico Digestivo Meta Íntegra) on Wednesday, 27 November 2019. The HOMS is the largest private hospital in Santiago.

Dr. Héctor Sánchez Navarro, director of Meta Integra and deputy director of HOMS, presented the new comprehensive care unit for obesity. “Meta Integra has a medical and technical team trained to provide a distinctive and innovative service under the criterion of comprehensive management of patients with obesity,” said the specialist in bariatric surgery and robotics.

President Danilo Medina was present for the inaugural. He broke ground at the same event for a new professional tower adjacent to the hospital in Santiago. Dr. Rafael Sánchez Español, president of the HOMS board, said the tower will house specialized medical services, a convention center with capacity for 400 people and a hotel. Sánchez said the HOMS has fulfilled its initial purpose of giving Santiago, the region and the country a center offering quality medical services, in keeping with the world’s scientific and technological advances.

The new HOMS professional tower-hotel project calls for the construction two buildings, one of 13 floors for professional medical practice spaces, meetings and a biomedical research laboratory. The 10-story hotel is for the recovery and post-surgery services for family members and medical professionals who come from abroad to perform procedures at the HOMS. The new professional complex also has a conference room, with a capacity of almost four hundred people, auxiliary business rooms, multiple classrooms and spaces for events. There will be parking for more than 700 vehicles.
