Black Friday: ProConsumidor calls for smart consumers and better store practices

The National Institute for the Protection of Consumer Rights (ProConsumidor) is educating Dominican consumers to avoid Black Friday pitfalls at physical stores and online. ProConsumidor director Anina del Castillo has been alerting consumers to check for guarantees, whether installation costs are included or not and for the store’s return policy when comparing prices.

ProConsumidor says the agency has been working with stores so they comply with better consumer practices. For instance, businesses need to list the number of items in their inventory to avoid the fraudulent claim that the price applies “while stocks are available.” She said stores are obliged to post prices and indicate whether or not taxes are included.

The head of the consumer protection agency, Anina del Castillo said: “Many businesses offer a series of discounts on their products and commit certain irregularities in these special offers, so it is important that suppliers know about their responsibilities and obligations to consumers.
