The Chamber of Deputies passed on Wednesday, 27 November 2019, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) loan for US$90 million for continuing urban development in the Colonial City of Santo Domingo. The Senate had passed the bill in June of this year.
The initiative provides funding to renovate public spaces and historical monuments such as the Convent of San Francisco, the banks of the Ozama River, the Alcazar of Colon, the Museum of the Royal Houses, the museography of the Fortress of Santo Domingo, the Museum of the First Cathedral of America and other infrastructure.
The project also covers the repair of the water supply system, storm drainage, sewerage, electrical and telecommunications wiring, street paving, lighting, signage, landscaping and provision of parking spaces in the Colonial City.
