Edwin de los Santos to preside ASIEX

The new president of the Dominican Association of Foreign Investment Companies (ASIEX), Edwin de los Santos emphasized collaboration with government authorities for the implementation of transparency in regulations to encourage trust and predictability for foreign investment. De los Santos, who is the president of AES Dominicana, was elected for the 2019-2021 term.

De los Santos spoke of the cultural nuances that foreign investment bring and integrate in the transformation of the future of nations. He spoke of how humanity is heading every minute towards an evolution with an unknown destiny. He said the Dominican Republic cannot ignore the impact the changes will have on the world, sooner rather than later.

“Since collaboration is one of the cornerstones of development in a general sense, I take this opportunity to extend the invitation to local and foreign investors to work hand in hand, maximizing the use of knowledge for the benefit of the Dominican Republic,’ he said. “If the country does well, we will all do well,” he stressed.

De los Santos said that foreign investment had been fundamental for socio-economic development in the country. He said foreign investment represents around 37% of all fiscal revenues, 71% of national exports, 22.5% of private sector contributions to social security. Foreign investment companies employ more than 200,000 in formal jobs.
