The Central Electoral Board (JCE) is asking for an increase in its budget from RD$8 billion to RD$16 billion. Besides, RD$3 billion is requested to be paid to the political parties participating in the elections, bringing the total required JCE allotments to RD$20 billion. The request was placed to the bicameral congressional committee that is studying the National Budget bill. JCE President Julio César Castaños Guzmán in person made the petition. He argued that in addition to the municipal election set for February and May 2020, there is a strong possibility of there being a second round election. He said numerous new roles had been added to the institution.
A budget of RD$997 billion is contemplated for 2020, or 8.2% more when compared to the RD$921.8 billion budgeted for 2019.
