
Speaking during the traditional pre-Thanksgivings Day American Chamber of Commerce luncheon, US Ambassador Robin Bernstein called for more transparency for business investments. She also urged the country achieve better competitiveness in aspects related to infrastructure, electricity and the labor force. She understands the Dominican Republic can attract more foreign investment. She observed that in Honduras, Uruguay, Costa Rica and Panama, foreign investment is 10% of the Gross Domestic Product, while in the Dominican Republic it is 7.5%.
The US Ambassador remarked that Haiti needs the support of multilateral organizations. She acknowledged the worsening of the crisis in Haiti is affecting the country in many ways. “We need to discover ways to help Haiti with its economic recovery,” she said. She said more multilateral involvement is required because the dialogue cannot be left up to the United States, Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
The US Ambassador offered US electoral technical assistance or equipment if a formal request is received. She forecast that 2020 will be a year of great transition and promise.
