The National Traffic and Ground Transportation Institute (Intrant) has published data that shows that nearly 60% of all motorcyclists do not use or wear a safety helmet, in violation with the law. Intrant called this number “alarming.”
The statistics also showed that fully 50% of motorcycles travel without lights, only 20% have rear-view mirrors and over 25% have regular or poor tires.
The National Highway Safety Plan for Motorcyclists was carried out by the Intrant Motorcycle Department. Motorcyclists and their passengers are involved in most fatal traffic accidents in the country.
