The Punta Cana-Macao Energy Consortium (CEPM) agreed to allow the National Emergency System 911 to use its optic fiber infrastructure free of charge for the installation of video surveillance equipment in the Punta Cana area. CEPM signed an agreement with the Ministry of the Presidency and the 911 Emergency System that also provides for the connectivity of the institutions linked to these programs and the transmission of images from the area to the 911 center of operations.
Minister of the Presidency Gustavo Montalvo, who chairs the National Council for Emergency Response and Security, Brigadier General Vicente Mota Medina (ERD), who is the executive director of the 9-1-1 System, and Roberto Herrera, executive director of CEPM signed the five-year agreement.
The agreement allows schools in the region to connect and access the Internet as part of the Ministry of Education’s One-to-One project, which consists of training and providing students and teachers with a laptop computer, developing digital pedagogical content, and technologically enabling schools.
It will also facilitate the connectivity of hospitals and primary health care centers to improve the services offered to citizens.
“This agreement is an example of an alliance between the public and private sectors, where we all win, including the main beneficiary, as it should be, which is Dominican society,” said Minister Montalvo, who thanked CEPM for its willingness to materialize the initiative.
