Ship sinks off the coast of Bani

The Dominican Navy has informed that Navy divers have been able to control the fuel leak from a boat that sank off the coast of Bani. Navy spokesman, naval Captain Fajardo Martinez, said that on the instructions of Vice Admiral Emilio Recio Segura, a team of military divers, sealed the fuel tanks of the sunken boat so that it would not continue to contaminate the area.

The boat, 64-foot-long “KillicDominik” is owned by a company of the same name and sank some five nautical miles to the south of Punta Salinas, Bani, in front of an area of the ocean called “el Derrumbao”.

However, Captain Martinez said that the naval technicians are continuing to evaluate if there is a possibility of rescuing the vessel, though to have sunk when water entered through the exhaust of the engine.

So far there has been minimal damage as the fuel used was diesel, which evaporates quickly.
