The Customs Agency (DGA) and the National Statistics Office (ONE) have inked an agreement to provide the data gathered by Customs to the ONE. In this manner, the ONE can establish statistics and indicators on international commerce. Among the specific data that will be transmitted are the purchase prices of the goods and services, the suppliers, the invoicing, and all manner of imports and exports. In addition, Customs will provide information relating to customs declarations.
The agreement, signed by Alexandra Izquierdo, the ONE director, and Enrique Ramirez Paniagua, the director-general of Customs, will assist in the collection and publication of vital statistics relating to foreign trade. According to Izquierdo, the exchange of information will contribute to the transparency of even more foreign commerce. The measure is also intended to reduce tax evasion.
