Manolito Jiménez of the Dominican Republic will receive his award for Best Photo during the Pan American Games Lima 2019 during a Pan Am Sports Awards ceremony in Fort Lauderdale, Florida this coming 13 December 2019.
As reported in Acento, Jimenez was covering the July-August 2019 Pan Am Games for El Nacional newspaper. His award is for capturing the joy in the face of gold medal winner Robert Pigozzi after achieving a record of three buoys at 10.25 meters in the Pan American Slalom water skiing competition on 28 July 2019 in Lima, Peru. Pigozzi won the Dominican Republic’s first Pan American gold medal ever in water skiing. Jimenez used a Nikon to capture Pigozzi’s victory smile and raised arms in the victory celebration, framed by the water jumping around him when the athlete celebrated his stellar performance.
Jimenez is a pro. He has been named Photographer of the Year by the Association of Sports Chroniclers of Santo Domingo (ACD).
