
Pediatrician Jesus Feris Iglesias revealed that for every Dominican who tests positive for malaria in the country, between eight and ten Haitians are detected infected with the disease. Nevertheless, he said that malaria outbreaks that have been detected in the country are under the control of Dominican health authorities.
When interviewed by Héctor Herrera Cabral for the D’Agenda TV show on Telesistema Sistema Chanel 11, the physician and medical researcher said: “The problem is that we share the island with Haiti, and we are not going to attribute all the problems just to the Haitian side, but evidently if our health system is deficient, the deficiencies of the health system in Haiti are multiplied by two or three. In the specific case of malaria, for each case of malaria in a Dominican, there are eight or ten in Haiti,” he said.
