Agreement signed with China’s CISPDR for the development of water projects

The National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INDRHI) and the Changjang Institute Of Survey, Planning, Design and Research (CISPDR) of the People’s Republic of China signed an inter-institutional cooperation agreement for the analysis of pre-investment, investment, strengthening and execution of projects in the country’s water and hydro-energy sector.

The agreement was signed by the executive director of INDRHI, engineer Olgo Fernández, and the president of the CISPDR board of directors, Niu Xin Qiang, at the Indrhi headquarters in Santo Domingo.

Fernandez said that for some time now Chinese technicians have been carrying out supervisory work to identify the water potential of the Dominican Republic and determine the areas where the largest investments should be made. He added that INDRHI has about 60 projects that can be addressed, but that there are three of high priority: Chavón, Amina-Magua and Alto Yuna.

The official pointed out that the exploratory efforts are not costing the Dominican government. Once the projects are identified, the Chinese government would offer to finance these.

CISPDR, affiliated to the Changjiang (Yangtze River) Water Resources Commission, Ministry of Water Resources, is a Chinese state-owned technology-based firm, rendering its services covering survey, planning, design, scientific research, consultancy, construction supervision and engineering, procurement, construction and commission (EPC) contracts.
