Domingo Contreras seeks to turn Av. Mella into a pedestrian walk

The candidate for mayor of the National District for the ruling Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), Domingo Contreras says Av. Mella should become a pedestrian walk and a new attraction for the city. Businesses have relocated to other areas abandoning the once former prime commercial avenue. Contreras says it can be renovated because it is in the historic center of the city.

Contreras said that the challenge is to bring economic and social development to the capital city while making it a more livable city.

“The city has enormous possibilities, but at the same time, great risks and vulnerabilities, this city is not friendlier today than it was ten years ago. It is a city with an impressive gastronomic and cultural offering, which people cannot fully enjoy,” he remarked when meeting with supporters of his candidacy.

He mentioned the case of the Gustavo Mejía Ricart Avenue, with an impressive gastronomic offering that does not have the sidewalks that it needs nor the lighting or architectural concept to make it sufficiently attractive.

Domingo Contreras insisted that Santo Domingo needs a mayor with management skills and a prepared management team that understands that it has to make a great effort in how to articulate with the sectors in the creation of a work program to achieve its advancement.

The municipal election is set for 16 February 2020.
