Gas station near Long Beach in Puerto Plata rejected by the people

The construction of a new gasoline station at the head of the Malecón in Puerto Plata, right next to Long Beach, is a scorching topic in the city for the past few days. The installation of a gas station so close to the beach has been roundly opposed. The station would be constructed right in front of the copy of Michelangelo’s statue off the shore of the beach.

Given that the area is used by the entire population as well as tourists for relaxation and recreation, the plan is undergoing harsh criticism and scrutiny. The Certificate of Minimum Environmental Impact, issued in October 2019 has been revoked by the local office of the Ministry of the Environment. However, the Urban Planning Department of the city government has yet to announce a position with regard to the proposed construction.
