The Expanded Immunization Program (PAI) will take place during the first half of 2020 and cover children between the ages of 1 to 4 years of age against measles and rubella.
The director of the program, Dr. Zacarias Garib noted the high percentage of coverage and the expansion that the program has experienced. In 2001, the program only included the application of five vaccines, and as of today, there are 16 vaccinations available for the population.
Dr. Garib pointed out that since 2001, there has not been a single case of polio or measles reported in the Dominican Republic. He also told the reporters from the Listin Diario that it has been ten years since there has been a case of rubella or tetanus in newborns. He attributed the achievements to the programs of the Ministry of Public Health and the PAI program.
Dr. Garib said that the program has an 85% coverage for the 14 vaccines in the regular program. He urged parents to follow the program of vaccinations for their children with the SR and the SRP vaccines applied at one year and at 18 months. These cover mumps, rubella and measles.
