The Central Electoral Board (JCE) approved the change of name of the political party Partido de los Trabajadores Dominicanos (Dominican Workers Party) to that of Fuerza del Pueblo (The Force of the People). The Force of the People (LFP) was created after former President Leonel Fernández claimed he had won the ruling Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) primary, but was a victim of electoral fraud. Fernández is the presidential candidate for the People’s Force and a coalition of other political parties.
The Constitutional Court has yet to rule on several recourses on whether former President Leonel Fernández can run for another party in the election after having competed in the PLD primary.
